Let the Word of God Guide You

August 1, 2008

Read Psalm 199:99-105 Amplified.

Meditating on the Word of God and studying His ways is what will guide us. His light comes and shows us how to live and what direction to take when we obey his word. If you spend time allowing the Lord to open up your understanding about the Bible, you will find that other things are easier to understand. The Lord can increase your ability to understand things in school or at work. It starts with Scripture and learning how to listen to Him speaking to you. When you start to get a deeper understanding of His Word, you will have a clearer understanding of your life and everything in it. He will bring clarity, guidance and wisdom to you. His Word will keep you out of trouble, and set you on the path of your destiny.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Sexual Purity

July 4, 2008

Read 1 Corinthians 6:12-18

Sex is the most intimate bonding process known to man. There is an indescribable union of body, soul, and spirit. Sex is not something to taken lightly and shouldn’t be considered a casual act. Since this union is so deep, it can truly confuse an individual who has had multiple sex partners about who they really are. God meant sex to be share by one man and one woman, so that they can be united as one soul.

Having sex before marriage can take away from the beauty, purity, and sacredness of the act. A truly amazing sexual experience goes far beyond physical pleasure. Remaining abstinent until marriage is the most ideal way to experience the ultimate, God intended, incredible sexual experience. Remaining sexually pure is not easy in this day and age, but it can be done. (read more on this)

Remember that you are to honor God with your body. If you do, he will bless even your sex life.

Glorify God in All You Do

June 23, 2008

In 1 Corinthians 10:23-33, the Bible talks about considering the good of others in the things that you do. It is important to be aware of the moral standards that those around you have, because we should respect that in our behavior. It is our responsibility as Christians to lead by example and do what we can to help others get saved. We should not do things that make those around us stumble.

No matter what we are doing, it should glorify God. If something you say or do doesn’t make living for Jesus look good, then we should try to change that behavior. Aiming to give glory to God at work, school, at home, or out on the street will make our lives more meaningful and blessed. Most importantly, we can offer a testimony to the fact that it is the Lord who motivates us to give our best everyday, and it is His anointing that strengthens us to do what we need to do each day.

We honor God by giving our best effort in whatever task might be in front of us. Not only does this attitude bless our lives, but the lives of others as well. As a result, we can lead more souls to Christ.

Not Guilty!

June 19, 2008

Read Romans 8:1-16

Do you wrestle with sin, guilt or shame? Do you find yourself doing the things that you said you would stop doing? Living as a Christian does not mean that you will be perfect and sinless, only Jesus was able to do that. I have had my own struggles, but I know that I can change with God’s help, and I don’t have to worry about being condemned or punished for it. That doesn’t mean I can sin whenever I want and just go free, it means that I don’t have to have a perfect record to be close to God or to go to heaven.

As long as I keep my mental focus on the things that the Spirit of God wants in my life, my behavior will become closer to that of Jesus. The Spirit of God lives within me, and my sinful nature doesn’t have the power over me that it used to. Although I may be tempted to do what is not right in the sight of God, I have the power to resist and make the right choice because of the Holy Spirit within me. I don’t have to obey the fleshly desire to sin.

Jesus died on the cross and rose again so that I can die to my sins and live a righteous life. I’m not guilty, and I don’t have to feel that way. If I sin, I am able to go straight to God, receive his forgiveness, and ask for his help to change my ways. He is always there, he listens, forgives me, loves me and helps me. He will also do that same thing for you.

Watch Your Mouth!

June 10, 2008

Read James 3:1-11. Try to get an understanding of what it means and how you can apply it to your life.

Are you undisciplined in your speech? Do you use foul language? Is saying whatever you feel like saying a habit of yours? If you honestly answered yes to these questions, it is time to tame your tongue. I have personally struggled with this issue, so I am not condemning anyone. According to the book of James, the tongue is the key to personal discipline. If you can learn to control what comes out of your mouth, you can control whatever you do.

How can we learn to control our tongue? Jesus said that whatever is abundant in our heart will come out of our mouths. Whatever you fill your heart with will show up in your language. Anything that you listen to, read or watch will feed your heart. If you are careful not to take in things that are crude, inappropriate, or contrary to scripture, none of those things will come out of your mouth. If you take in those types of things on a regular basis, they will fill your heart and your speech, and ultimately your behavior will reflect that. On the same token if you fill your heart with songs of praise, the Bible, Christian music, and wholesome things, that is what will come out when you speak and act.

Controlling your tongue starts with feeding your Spirit with good, clean things. I want to encourage you, and myself, to watch your mouth!
